Lunar Perigee, the "Supermoon" over Ventura CA, 05/05/12

These shots taken at the cross above downtown Ventura.

I'm on-call for work this beautiful weekend so no trail time for me. Instead, I have to recommend grabbing  somebody close to you and checking out tonight's full moon, a celestial treat.  Here's what the LA Times had to say:

"Known technically as a perigree moon, the "supermoon" was said to be 14% larger and 30% brighter than the other full moons of 2012. The phenomenon happens about once a year. Because the moon follows an eliptical orbit around the earth, its distance from the planet varies. Full moons that occur when the moon is the closest, on the perigree side of its orbit, are particularly big and bright."
