Dustin and I had a really memorable ride today. We took East Camino Cielo from the pavement above Santa Barbara all the way to it's terminus overlooking Lake Casitas in Ojai. So what this means is that we rode the ridge 4,000ft above Santa Barbara, Montecito, Carpinteria, until we could see down into Ojai. The ridge is a wild trail of steep, loose, rocky terrain with the San Rafeal Wilderness on the one side and the ocean on the other. A thick layer of fog wound it's way in, out, and over the ridge so not only could we not see the ocean, but sometimes we had enough trouble seeing the trail. We got to explore some side trails, mostly hairy single-track that was overgrown with the dreaded manzanita. Wild stuff.
In the above photo, Santa Barbara would be to the left and Gibralter Reservoir and the San Rafeal is to the right. A beautifully airy ridge to ride.
